Jackrabbit and Dance Studio Pro Track Your Money — But Are You Actually Pricing for Profit?

Dance studio pricing for profit — Studio Empire 360 header

Your billing software collects tuition beautifully. It has no idea whether you’re charging enough.

Every dance studio owner we’ve ever met can tell you their monthly revenue to the dollar. Jackrabbit or Dance Studio Pro puts it right on the dashboard. What almost none of them can tell you — and what no management platform will ever show you — is whether that revenue is built on prices that actually turn a profit.

That’s the quiet problem underneath a lot of stressed-out studios. You can be busy, full, and beloved in your community, and still be underpricing yourself into exhaustion. Here’s how to check, and how to fix it — starting free, right now.

Why your software can’t help you here

Registration and billing platforms are collection engines. You tell them the price, they charge the card, they log the payment. That’s their job and they’re good at it.

But notice what that means: the price is an input you give the software, not an answer the software gives you. Jackrabbit and Dance Studio Pro will process $89/month tuition exactly as happily as they’d process $119/month. They have no opinion. They can’t see your rent, your payroll, your costume margins, your recital costs, or your local market. So the single most important number in your entire business — what you charge — is the one number your software leaves entirely up to a gut feeling you probably set years ago and have been afraid to touch since.

Four places studios quietly bleed money

In 40 years of owning a studio and coaching thousands of others, we see the same leaks over and over:

  1. Tuition that never kept up with your costs. If your rates are the same as they were three or four years ago, but your rent, insurance, and staff pay have climbed, your margin has been shrinking the whole time. Full classes at the wrong price just means you’re subsidizing your community out of your own paycheck.
  2. Discounts you can’t actually afford. Multi-class discounts, family discounts, early-bird pricing — these are fine if you’ve done the math. Most owners stack them without ever calculating what they do to the profit on that student. Sometimes the “loyal” family paying the most discounted rate is the least profitable one you have.
  3. Add-ons priced like favors. Costume fees, recital fees, privates, competition team costs. These are often set to “cover it” rather than to reflect their real value and cost. Small leaks, every season, on every dancer.
  4. No idea which programs actually make money. Your revenue total hides the truth that some class types carry the studio while others quietly lose money every single week. Without breaking it down, you can’t cut the losers or grow the winners.

A 20-minute exercise you can do today

Before you change a single price, get honest about the current picture. Take one class you run regularly and work out:

  • True cost per class: teacher pay + your share of rent for that room/hour + a slice of your fixed overhead.
  • Actual revenue per class: average tuition per student (after discounts) × students enrolled.
  • The gap: what’s left is your real margin on that class — not the sticker price, the real one.

Do that for your three biggest programs and you’ll usually find at least one that’s barely breaking even. That’s not a reason to panic. It’s the first time you’ve seen where the money actually is — which is the first step to fixing it.

Where this gets easier

Doing that math by hand, across every class, discount, and add-on in your studio, is exactly the tedious work that keeps most owners from ever finishing it. That’s why we built Studio Empire 360.

It works alongside Jackrabbit or Dance Studio Pro — you keep collecting tuition exactly the way you do now. But instead of just recording your numbers, Studio Empire 360 reads your real financials, surfaces the hidden revenue you’re leaving on the table, and builds you a custom growth plan based on what’s actually true about your studio. It’s the profit-and-pricing strategy your billing software was never designed to give you.

Your management software tells you what you earned. Studio Empire 360 tells you what you should be earning — and how to get there.
